TITLE: PART TIME DIVER
Scope Of Job |
As part of the SEA LIFE Orlando Displays Team, the Displays Diver assists the Displays Team in ensuring all dive-able habitats are maintained to the highest Merlin standards, ensuring the animals have the cleanest habitats, and ensuring our guests experience the best-looking displays. This is a part-time position. |
Key Objectives/Responsibilities |
- Work with the Curator, Dive Safety Officer (DSO), and Aquarists to ensure an environment conducive to the health and well-being of the animals at SEA LIFE.
- Dive in exhibits for cleaning, animal care, etc
- Ensure all dive related activities are in site compliance and exceed the safety standards of the US Dive Safety Manual, Merlin Health, Safety & Security Policy (HS001), and OSHA regulations.
- Follow dive plans for all dives at the aquarium.
- Maintain up to date certificates for CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen training as well as backboard training.
- Complete an annual dive physical.
- Participate in all aspects of the dive operations to include DPIC, Top Side Tender, and Tunnel Tender.
- Participate in yearly dive safety drills.
- Support Displays Team’s habitat cleaning schedule by following plans to address problem areas developed by the Displays Curator and/or Senior Aquarist, Aquarium Supervisor and DSO.

Health & Safety |
- Ability to understand and follow Health and Safety regulations
- Responsibility to ensure compliance of Health, Safety & Security within the workplace and in line with the Group Policy (HS001).
- Predict, manage and control all perceived risks to customers, staff and overall business
- Understand risk assessments within own workplace and ensure reporting of any new risks to appropriate manager.
- Ensure compliance of safe working procedures in place for work activities within attraction.
- Report incidents and accidents to a manager in a timely manner
- Ensure the day-to-day safety and security of the public on the premises.

Background, Experience & Qualifications |
Experience: Dive Experience: - Valid Rescue diver certification from a recognized dive program (PADI, NAUI, SSI, etc.)
- Preferred 1-2 years of recent dive experience in a public aquarium setting with a minimum of 15 dives completed in a large volume display of 70,000+ gallons.
- Ability to pass a swim test and a dive physical within 3 months of hire.
- Ability to dive with sharks, rays, fish, eels and sea turtles in a closed environment.
- Ability to assist with underwater animal collections for medical examinations.
- Ability to perform underwater maintenance.
- Ability to obtain and hold a current First Aid, CPR, AED, DAN O2 certification.
Education: Valid Rescue diver certification from a recognized dive program (PADI, NAUI, SSI, etc.) Other Requirements: - Must interact and communicate with guests, management, and other individuals and be able to deliver quality customer service.
- Ability to maintain a clean/organized work environment.
- Ability to work effectively with limited or no supervision.
- Requires the ability to effectively follow directions and observe/remember details.
- Requires the ability to maintain a friendly, polite, service-oriented demeanor.
- Effective decision-making skills are required.
- Must be able to communicate and support the Aquarium’s mission and goals.

Work Environment, Working Pattern and Other Requirements |
Work Environment: - Work environment includes various areas within the Attraction, with varying temperatures and floor surfaces, including wet floors.
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb stairs, and walk. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in an environment that may be loud at times.
- Ability to occasionally lift, move, carry, push, or pull up to 50lbs.
- No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch, balance, or ability of movement which might interfere with the ability to work.
- No history of allergic reactions to any animals which might interfere with the ability to perform husbandry work.
Working Pattern: - Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to respond to emergencies.
Other Requirements: - Must be able to work as part of a team in an environment that constantly changes. Must also be able to work independently at times with minimal supervision.
- Must be willing to follow all procedures and protocols set by SEA LIFE
- Must be willing to use personal protective equipment when necessary
