Summary of Role:

Under the direction of the Health & Safety Manager:  the incumbent coordinates and participates in administering a comprehensive return to work program, including workers' compensation claims. Investigates, researches, and coordinates timely closure of workers compensation claims.  The Health Services Assistant Manager is responsible for performing a variety of complex technical and administrative duties for the workers' compensation claims. The incumbent serves as liaison with medical provider offices, adjusters, HR and the Claims & Risk Manager of North America. The Workers Compensation Claims Assistant Manager is expected to work independently and exercise sound professional judgment and discretion in dealing with all interested parties in the resolution of workers compensation claims.

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Manage the day to day Health Services Operations:
    • Emergency response, basic first aid and follow up with employee patients.
    • Manage the medical team scheduling and effectively schedule medical staff to cover Resort operating needs. 
  • Manage the Health Services Labor budget by ensuring the medical staff are not clocking in early (unless required), receiving their paid/unpaid breaks on time and that medical staff are not working overtime as much as possible. manual timecards and approval of frontline staff timecards in UKG.
  • Ordering and maintaining first aid supplies within the allotted medical supply budget.
  • Tracking of EMT certifications and ensuring that medical staff maintain their certification as well as up-to date San Diego County Protocols.
  • Conducting EMT new hire and current EMT skill training.
  • Maintaining Emergency Trailer inventory and generator maintenance.
  • Assisting the Security Manager with planning of the yearly MCI drill.
  • Scheduling relevant training for the department with LLCR Medical direction.
  • Updating Health Services SOPs in accordance with Cal/OSHA and County compliance.
  • Conducting follow ups on light duty and work comp cases.
  • Inspecting and Maintaining Park AEDs monthly.
  • Inspecting and maintaining first aid equipment and oxygen supply.
  • Assist with auditing and maintaining workers compensation claim medical files as well as all other health services paperwork.
  • Primary treater in first aid in the absence of frontline staff or when the Resort is busy.
  • Auditing opening and closing duties and response vehicle checks.
  • Managing the maintenance of the department Response vehicle.
  • Communicate procedural/operational updates to all staff and maintain MC records of acknowledgement.
  • Manage corrective action of frontline staff with the approval of HR and the Health & Safety Manager.
  • Coordinate interviews and manage the hiring of new medical staff.
  • Create and implement incentive/engagement activities for the medical team.
  • Plan and coordinate medical staff meetings and training.
  • Audit and Manage patient contact logs and the scanning of reports/ medical documents into MC medical files.
  • Manage MC exposure to BBP, chemicals or novel viruses by ensuring they receive proper care/testing and proper documentation is collected.
  • Plan and collaborate annual events as directed:  the  annual flu vaccination clinic and ensure that Aerosol transmittable disease standards are met.
  • Act as the Medical POC during MCI/Disaster situations.
  • Other duties as assigned by Health Services Management.

Secondary Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the Security department with security duties as needed.
  • Cover Security 1 duty manager shifts/breaks as needed.
  • Assist with administration of the Resort’s workers' compensation claims.

Qualifications & Experience

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university preferred but not required.
  • Must be a graduate of a State accredited or recognized EMT/Paramedic program and possess a current California and San Diego County certifications, in good standing or have training/experience as: 
    • Hospital Corpsman
    • Nurses
    • PAs
    • Phyicians
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) is required.
  • Requires a minimum of (1) years of BLS experience in the field or clinical environment. (4) years’ experience highly desirable.
  • Experience working as a Paramedic, bridged EMT on an ALS unit or regular work on a CCT unit is preferred.
  • Theme park medical experience is highly desirable.

 

Qualifications Knowledge of:

  • Practices, procedures and standards applicable to management, administration, analysis and workers' compensation claims.
  • Workers compensation insurance statutes, regulations and practices preferred.
  • Principles and practices of workers compensation, safety, surveillance and other loss prevention methods.
  • Federal, state and local laws and regulations governing the administration of workers' compensation and maintenance of employee records.
  • Office practices and procedures commonly used in managing and administering claims and claim files.
  • Methods of identifying exposure to loss and investigating and correcting industrial and environmental hazards.
  • Methods and techniques for conducting statistical and financial analyses.
  • Principles and practices of sound business communication.

 

Must be proficient and be capable of: 

  • Operating a computer using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Interpreting medical documents with the ability to understand medical terminology.
  • Conducting research of loss prevention/control issues evaluate alternatives and reach sound conclusions with recommendations for improvement.
  • Exercising sound independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Understanding and properly utilize workers compensation terminology.
  • Preparing clear, concise and accurate reports and correspondence.
  • Organizing and maintain office and specialized claims files.
  • Communicating clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Handling sensitive situations with compassion, tact and confidentiality; maintain confidential information.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with Health & Safety Manager, Claims & Risk Manager of North America, Liberty Mutual Insurance adjusters. Medical offices and others encountered in the course of the work.

Further Requirements: 

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours to support the Operations of the Resort: including early mornings, evenings, overnights, holidays and weekends to support park operations.
    • This position is an hourly position that requires 5 days a week of availability. Hours will vary based on operational needs.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: 

Work Environment: 

  • This position is both indoors and outdoors as the incumbent will be supporting Resort employees and guests.  Applicant will be exposed to outside weather throughout the seasons.
  • While performing duties, the individual is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Use of hands and fingers are used to handle and/or grip objects, tools, and perform administrative work.  Position requires pushing, lifting, and pulling objects will be performed during time of duties.
  • Individual is occasionally exposed to chemicals, hazardous chemicals, will be exposed to loud work environment. 
  • Personal Protective Equipment for the position includes: Steele toed boots and may include additional PPE as per the duties being actioned or as directed by the HSSE Management Team

Pay Range

Compensation between USD $28.00/Hr.-USD $30.00/Hr.
