Job Summary: 

The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for the management of ride, and facilities, operations including monitoring and management of ride safety and maintenance aspects which will include planned preventative maintenance regimes, safety & maintenance inspections, training, general repair duties and contractor control.

 

The Engineering Supervisor will take responsibility for ensuring that all rides are maintained to the required standard with minimal down time to create the highest possible quality of experience for all visitors. They must ensure that all health and safety requirements are met, and all Merlin procedures and documentation are in place. The Engineering Supervisor will ensure all paperwork has been completed correctly; requests for parts and stores requisitions are completed for all items used / required. The ride systems are monitored, inspected, and repaired quickly to meet the needs of the business, and all breakdowns and repairs are recorded on the work order system. The ride will be inspected, and potential issues are investigated and resolved before they impact on the ride availability. Work with train site engineers on ride systems to improve their ability to maintain and repair the ride as needed.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Will be responsible for ensuring all ride controls, ride systems, components, lighting, are in good working order and liaise with external contractors when necessary, ensuring all relevant documentation and safety checks are up to date.
  • Will be responsible for the completion of all daily checks and start up / close procedures and completed in a timely manner and that all paperwork has been completed correctly. They will also organize monthly preventative maintenance for the ride ensuring it adheres to ADIPS, ASTM, NEC, State and local standards and all ride related documentation is completed.
  • Will ensure ride down time is kept to a minimum and be aware of all issues pertaining to the rides including capsules, drives, lighting, and regular testing for all mechanical and electrical control systems.
  • Will schedule annual ride shutdown in line with the Engineering Manager and the needs of the business.
  • Will be expected to ensure that the attraction is offering a premium product. The Engineering Supervisor is expected to understand the business requirements and work under pressure in a visitor-focused environment. Take full responsibility for following up on issues affecting the quality of the visitor ride experience.
  • The Engineering Supervisor will be required to work with the Engineering Manager to ensure that all expenditure comes within budget. Expected to be aware of all cost issues relating to the ride, keeping a tight control of external contractor expenditure including sourcing alternative suppliers to ensure value for money is maximized.
  • To attend Company training programs to develop capabilities. Use the Personal Development Plan program in conjunction with your Line Manager to identify areas of growth potential. It is expected the Engineering Supervisor will be in contact with their relevant counterparts within the Florida Division as well as other attractions within the Merlin Group and may be required to assist at other Merlin sites from time to time.

Build and develop a maintenance team who work together, support, communicate and encourage one another creating a fun, professional environment where Merlin values are delivered. Through coaching & development establish a team that is confident and competent in their roles, ensuring that this is cascaded 

  • to the frontline staff. Also expected to use the formal counselling and disciplinary procedures when required.
  • Must be flexible and positive in your approach and will be expected to carry out any reasonable tasks requested by their line Manager.
  • The Engineering Supervisor is expected to develop and nurture positive relationships with all Departments as well as colleagues throughout the Merlin Group.
  • Actively engage in the positive promotion of Health, Safety and Environment at Work.
  • Assist with site controls equipment installation, test cycles, repairs, and system overhauls. Participates in training of ride specific components as well as services and performs maintenance on tools/test equipment.
  • Inspects the ride systems and controls for issues or potential issues and addresses repairs / improvements to prevent ride down time.
  • Maintains documents of all ride installations, inspections, maintenance, and repair work of system failures of all site rides-controlled components. Ensure site facilities and fabric of building are always safe and in good working order, and that adequate written risk assessments and safe working systems are developed and in place.
  • Ability to perform scheduled preventive maintenance to ensure that ride control systems are properly maintained and operating correctly may handle emergency service calls as directed or required by employer during the day as well as after hours. Completes service repairs, replacements, upgrades, adjustments and calibration on the ride control systems and components following issued tasking, maintenance, and troubleshooting of installation instructions. Performs system check and assists in ride control system startups for all serviced/installed jobs.
  • Works with company or external installation service providers and/or vendors to arrange service and to resolve problems and participates in job site final walk and / or final completion for systems to service turnover on assigned jobs. Conducts training and development for site technicians.

Qualifications & Experience

Education and Experience:

Associate degree in electrical engineering and/or at least 2 years of vocational/technical training. Proficient in the use of electrical testing devices, and job-related hand tools. Demonstrates comprehensive working knowledge of a technical or specialty area, and of operations, methods, and practices. Skilled in Siemens PLC controls programming, and troubleshooting. Ability to read electrical schematics and interpret the English written language. Excellent verbal and written communication and customer relation skills.

 

Licenses and Certifications

Ability to obtain related licensures or certification as may be required to perform the essential function of the position or as required by law.

 

Health & Safety:

working procedures for all work activities they undertake, and they must not use any tools or equipment for which they have not been trained. Where incidents do occur, must ensure they are reported to their line manager and cooperate with any investigation as appropriate in accordance with applicable laws.

 

Managers/supervisors are responsible for all aspects of Health, Safety & Security within their team, in line with the Merlin Entertainments Group Health, Safety and Security Policy. They must ensure that risk assessments have been carried out, that safe working procedures are in place for all work activities and that all employees in their teams are aware of the Group Health, Safety and Security Policy and their obligations under it. They must ensure that safe working practices are monitored, and that risk assessments and procedures are reviewed regularly. Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are investigated appropriately and that where necessary, corrective action is taken to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

 

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to meet the physical requirement of weighing and maintaining less than 280 lbs (due to the weight limitations on the ladder(s)).   
  • Will operate heavy power equipment ex. Boom lift and scissor lift.
  • Must be able to work at heights of 200+ feet.
  • Ability to identify and use all hand tools, small power tools, use and carry ladders up to 20ft. tall
  • Ability to hear, listen, and to communicate with others. 
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to use basic computer tools. 
  • Wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions. 
  • Move throughout all areas of the attraction with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Stand, sit, and/or walk continuously with or without a reasonable accommodation and perform job function for the full shift with meal break.
  • Bend, stoop kneel, reach twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, and/or crouch to accomplish daily activities.
  • Grasp, turn and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

  • May be occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, hazardous chemicals, fluorescent lamps or batteries, hazardous waste.
